Casas da Serra do Açor | Activities
As Casas da Serra do Açor é uma empresa de Turismo Rural que foi criada em 2008 na aldeia de Casal Novo do concelho de Arganil. Iniciámos este projecto com a recuperação da Casa do Avô, que foi uma herança da nossa família, e posteriormente recuperámos a Casa do Forno Cimeira e a Casa do Forno Fundeira. A construção inicial destas três habitações remonta ao séc. XIX, o processo de requalificação foi executado entre os anos 2010 e 2012, e teve como objectivo preservar algumas das características originais dos edifícios em xisto, dotando-os de todo o conforto e comodidade. Aqui trabalhamos para que os nossos visitantes possam usufruir de descanso, privacidade e conforto, rodeados pelas magníficas paisagens que a Serra do Açor e o Rio Ceira nos oferecem. Activities

Casas da Serra do Açor are situated in the heart of the Açor mountain range, which belongs to Natura 2000 Network.

It is worth discovering the natural charm of this region with its gorgeous landscape, rivers, fauna and flora.

Take some time to explore the nooks and charms of our Ceira river and the walking routes close to our village.

T

his region is inserted in the territory of Schist Villages, the nearest being the village of Fajão (6km).

In Fajão, a village that already belongs to the municipality of Pampilhosa da Serra, let yourself wander through the narrow cobbled streets in the village and the wild pathways to Penedos de Fajão.

Places to visit: Parish Church, Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guia, the etnographic museum Monsignor Nunes Pereira.

Finally you can find the excellent local cuisine at the restaurant “O Pascoal” or the famous cafe “O Juiz de Fajão”.

 

You can also visit the village of Cepos, about 8 km away, a unique view point to appreciate the magnificent mountainous landscape, with a privileged view over Penedos de Fajão.

Places do visit: “Chã da Cabeça” leisure park, “Pejadouro” Pool (another charming corner of Ceira river), Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem, Parish Church.

ake some time to cross Arganil county where you can not miss the historic village of Piódão and pay a visit to the Interpretative Center of Rock Art in Chãs d’Égua where you can make a guided tour to almost 100 engravings.

 

Arganil offers a variety of monuments and cultural sites to visit, as well as interesting nature spots. Discover them.

ou can also visit the counties of Pampilhosa da Serra and Góis, where you will find gorgeous sites, such as the dam of Santa Luzia or Penedos de Góis.

Travelling northwards to Serra da Estrela, (the highest mountain in Portugal) can be another fine option for mountain lovers and it offers a completely different type of landscape. It is 70 km away from Casal Novo (approximately one and a half hour ride). Serra da Lousã, 55 Km away, gathers some of the most beautiful old schist villages recovered in the latest ten years.

Gastronomy

Local gastronomy is rich and varied: “cabrito assado” (roast kid), “chanfana” (goat stew), “javali assado” (wild boar roast), trout from Ceira river, “bucho”, “nabos de molho” or “migas” are the most typical dishes … as for desserts, the choice between “tigelada”, “filhoses”, “coscuréis” or “sequilhos” can be difficult if you have a sweet tooth. You would be lost in translation unless you try them.
